Museum Day is a one-day event in which participating museums and cultural establishments across the country provide free entry to anybody presenting a Museum Day ticket. Participants will obtain free admission for 2 (one download per e mail).
Although ignored, there are over seven hundred college art museums in the US alone. In Italy, the art tourism of the Grand Tour became a major business from the 18th century onwards, and cities made efforts to make their key works accessible. The Capitoline Museums started in 1471 with a donation of classical sculpture to the town of Rome by the Papacy, whereas the Vatican Museums, whose collections are still owned by the Pope, trace their foundation to 1506, when the recently discovered LaocoÃ¶n and His Sons was placed on public display. A series of museums on different topics had been opened over subsequent centuries, and most of the buildings of the Vatican were function-constructed as galleries.
